So You're Looking For The Booru: A Mirrorers Guide

Unfortunately, sometime during the last few days (probably just ~12 hours ago), Makin took down the Homestuck Resources Booru.

Due to the booru's nature, archiving it was more difficult than the rest of homestuck.net. Not only was it not in the GitHub repository for homestuck.net (completely understandable as it is not a static site), szurubooru (the software used to run the booru) relied a lot on clientside JavaScript to function. This also means that navigating the booru using archive.org is impossible.

I had looked into different ways of doing it, but due to time constraints and other stuff I had going on, I didn't archive so much as a single page of the booru. For this, I am sorry, and I deeply regret not at least trying. Naively I had assumed that the booru would remain open for longer than it did.

I need something from the booru

You can try looking for it in the open directory you're staring at right now, though be warned that as this is a temporary solution, it's bound to be a little messy. For example, there is no search function. Sorry.

You can also try looking for scraps of PNGs and GIFs (but not PSDs) on archive.org's URL list (be sure to open the links that end in file extensions, the actual HTML pages don't work): https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://homestuck.net/resources/booru/* - if you find something that isn't already here, please contact me! What's next?

I'm currently looking into making a site to replace homestuck.net and its booru. As demonstrated, relying on a site hosted by someone disliked both by Andrew Hussie and much of the Homestuck community and who has already faced legal action from Hussie is, obviously, not a good idea. It also seems like Makin is big into generative AI, all the way from text (search for "chatGPT helped make it") to images (look at the logo in the top left), which is just more reason to not want such a person to be responsible for hosting a bunch of creative fanworks. I try to retain the role of an impartial mirrorer just looking out for the community, but I believe generative AI is very much against creativity and art as a whole, which I'd assume is an opinion most of the fandom shares.

The site will host all of homestuck.net's content as well as a new booru, which will hopefully be easier to archive. I'm placing a lot of importance on how easy the new site will be to copy and archive in full - ideally, there'll be a big red "DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING" button.

Right now I'm thinking it'll mostly be static pages with some PHP to add a header and footer to each page, but it's still up in the air. I don't imagine there'll be much need from a backend aside from making the site a little easier to maintain, but if you can think of something, let me know.
